Liming Research Institute of Chemical Industry (LRICI), directly under the former Ministry of Chemical Industry, is a comprehensive research unit majoring in the development of new chemical materials and raw materials of chemical propellants. It was founded in 1965 and composed of some departments, which had been parts of Beijing, Tianjin, Shenyang and Shanghai Research Institutes of Chemical Industry. In 1999, it changed to the science and technology enterprise.

At present, the institute has 770 staffs, of which, there are 498 scientific researchers including 1 member of Chinese Academy of Engineering,13 professor-senior engineers, 92 senior engineers, 198 engineers. In the institute, there are three research and development departments for hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), Polyurethanes (PU) and raw materials of chemical propellants. There are also three chemical branch plants of hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) binder, Sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆), and propellants, and department of development and design, analysis and test center, utilities supply and mechanical processing branch plant, etc.

The National Inspection & Test Center of Special Chemical Materials for National Defense and Propellant Information Station were set up here. LRICI is also the Chairman Unit of China PU Industry Association, the Military Standardization Unit of Special Chemical Product for national Defense, and the National Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) Engineering Research Center. In 1993, LRICI is one of the first 100 research institutes, to whom the right of import & export business was granted by the Central Government. In 2000, together with Henan Science and Technology University, LRICI owned the right of master degree granting for two majors (Chemical Engineering and Technology, Polymer Chemistry and Physics).

In the 40 yearlong times, LRICI has implemented more than 300 research items including 233 identified research achievements and 147 items acquiring various Science and Technology Prizes, including 3 National Invention Prizes,11 National Science and Technology Progress Prizes, 127 Province or Ministry Science and Technology Progress Prizes, 6 Luoyang Science and Technology Progress Prizes.

LRICI insists on the belief of “Science and Research is base, Market is guide, Industrial development is support and Benefit is focus”, especially, has made great contributions to the development of technology for H₂O₂ production by anthraquinone process, new polyurethane technology and materials, and the chemical products for national defense, etc.
